Chapter Eleven

Noel

The night seemed to last longer than other nights. Thankfully, we had Honeymay to entertain us with all of her thrilling stories. Her whimsical voice held our attentions and distracted us from what was to come. Prince Luke’s men let the forest sleep without any disturbances and allowed us to travel peacefully. Once Honeymay tired from her anecdotes we all, except Larsen, tried to find any sleep we could. I struggled to sleep with the constant bumping of my head from the moving wagon, itching caused by dirt plastered on my face and cold that ran through the night. Krispin let me lay on his stuffed belly but it only took away some of my chills.

Hours passed before the sun started to rise and the higher it rose the closer we were to Noel. Once the moon entirely disappeared, the kingdom of Noel came into view. I could see the castles towers and flags that waved back and forth.

Right before we exited the forest Larsen stopped the wagon. He turned around to the four of us in the back and looked specifically at King Edward and I. “I really hate to do this but you two need to get out and walk behind, to make it look more like you are our servants.” He said.

I did not want to get out and walk behind the cart. It made us seem more like slaves rather than servants, but I did what Larsen asked. He then told Krispin to tie the rope around our hands and attach it to the wagon, again making me feel more like a slave. Once Krispin finished tying up our hands, Honeymay gave us all one last look over. After correcting a few touches to Jewels and Krispin she was satisfied and Larsen began moving towards Noel with King Edward and I following unhappily behind.

We went over a wooden bridge that had a river flowing beneath it. The rivers path ran all through the kingdom and off into the forest. It looked like it was flowing on a very short water supply. By the rich soil, that was now exposed, you could tell that the water once ran much higher than the meek flow it was today.

“Look at what…” King Edward mumbled to himself, but stopped talking entirely when I looked at him. Once we crossed the bridge, we reached a pair of beautiful golden oak doors that stood nearly forty feet. A stone wall that looked rough to the touch surrounded the doors. In front of the doors stood two men covered in armor. They drew their swords once they saw us heading their way. Looking at the men, I viewed something I had never seen before. The men in front of us had similar body shapes as other men. They stood at a normal height and had two arms and two legs like most men. The only difference about these men was their faces. Instead of having a face like a humans theirs resembled to that of a swine.
